About Me:
Hi, my name's Karl and I'm a songwriter.
Most people call me Bristol, just like the city in the UK. So just do the same.
I'm a musician, singer and yeah, I think I'm getting better and better at producing skills. Anyway, I really love making music without using any of the belauded software such as cubase, logic or pro tools. Well, I actually love pro tools, but I'm too poor to afford some.
Most of my tunes are recorded on my lap top, which actually is no mac. I know that sucks, but I like it. I also like doing all the work myself and wasting a lot of time on it, 'cause I'm pretty inconvenient with creating and saving sounds. And...yes, I'm anxious to hear my own instruments on my works. I play them.
Yes! I did it! I have bought a Korg K25 midi master keyboard and it works. Dynamic. - That's the word that fits. I like very much. But I still haven't got any guitar that is working properly, but I'm trying to change that soon... but my mother's old guitar was the first instrument I've ever touched and it has been my companion for my whole lifetime. So there'll be no change in that.
I once bought a bongo drum in Pisa, Italy... well, it originated from Senegal. Anyway, I now have this drum and lots of sticks and percussion aswell, so I'm able to hit something, too. If I need a rimshot, I'll hit a rim, not a snare. Plus, I have a larger collection of toy keyboards and gameboys I use for producing songs. I'm also putting my sample archive in order just to stay on top of things.
If it's indispensable for you to pigeonhole me somewhere, you might just try by comparing me to my idols Mike Skinner (The Streets), Jamie T., Tricky and Massive Attack. I think they are the ones I try to be similar to, even if I seem to be far away from that. However, I listen to their records and think, it's the most important music for me ever made. I love the UK, love Bristol (but never been there), love Trip Hop, Electronica, Garage and Rap. I even love Emo, although nobody around here knows what this means and my British mates all connect it to something bad. To me it's fun being called emo. I like it. Somebody has to be.
Leaving Bristol is how I call me and the formation all around me when it gets to live performances or featuring other singers. I am unsigned and not really proud of it, but I never sent any of my material to a label. Well, maybe I should. There actually are some labels, I'm really interested in, such as Pacemaker Recordings, The Beats, Fatcat, Ed Banger Records, Brown Punk, Tru Thoughts and Morr Music, but I don't know the ropes with labels, so there probably are tons of cool labels that would like my music. I hope. Maybe none. I fear. Oh yes, by the way, if you've got or know a label that would sign me, just let me know!

I've been sent a few inquiries lately, so I'm some kind of sitting on the fence these days. I made an album of my own, called "an approach to style" which I played on some concerts last summer to become a little more known. I also released an extended play called "second class hero" very soon. It'll be sent to some labels, too. After that I moved to Hamburg to study for the bar and of course go on making music. Mabye I'll tour the UK in 2008.
So, if you still think, Leaving Bristol is not that much of a talent, I like to mention that I'd love to do remixes, mash-ups, features and speaking in audiobooks or radio plays of any kind, 'cause I'm really enamoured of this stuff. So, if you want me to, let it be known. I'm also willing to make themes for movies or tv and radio shows. Background music, elevator music, video game music, noise effects - I love all that stuff and I'm ready to do this. Any weird project you could image - I'm doing it, mate. I wrote a song inspired by an aquarelle of Emil Nolde for the Kunsthalle museum in Emden, Germany, for example. It's similar to what Basement Jaxx did with Karel Appel's art for Tate, London. Oh yeah, I'm also puttin on some foreign music as a dj.
On a note, Leaving Bristol exists since september '06, but I exist even longer.
Since October, 22nd '86. What more can I say? Well, I'm running a large project, going by the name Leaving Bristol artist collective (LBAC), which aim is to support talented unsigned artist to become known in public, especially here on myspace. All the bands and artists support each other whereever they can. Some people might say, it's cheesy idealism, I guess, we at Leaving Bristol think it's great.
